We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a HNC/HND/degree and good design office experience to undertake the planning, design and delivery of complex mechanical handling and weapon launch systems equipment

Candidates for the position of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Complex Mechanical Handling Systems) will need to have had experience of Product Data Management (PDM) & 3D CAD software as well as a broad interest in Engineering Technologies

Also required is the ability to perform strength calculations for the sizing of equipment and an understanding of what can and can’t be practically manufactured

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Complex Mechanical Handling Systems) will also need to be able to design for Availability, Reliability & Maintainability and have an appreciation of electrical/electronic (and other) control methodologies

Experience of working in a Defence or Nuclear environment or in a medium/heavy engineering (ideally mechanical handling) industry would be preferable but not essential

Ideally you will be a member of a relevant institution and hold Chartered or Incorporated status.

As this is a mature, mechanical design role the role of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will entail performing work involving independence in approach and demanding originality, ingenuity and judgement. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Nuclear/Defence) will make technical decisions and ‘own’ all aspects of their design.

Day to day responsibilities will include:

• Planning, designing and delivering complex mechanical handling and weapon launch systems equipment
• Undertaking concept or detailed design dependent upon the maturity of the projects underway.
• Mechanical design at system and sub-system level (including mechanisms & structures)
• Integrating hydraulic/pneumatic systems into the overall design
• Design & task estimation
