Principal Subsea Cables Engineer – oil and gas production or subsea background – MathCAD - Word, Excel and bespoke databases – report writing – capable of line management - based London (Kent) or Scotland (Aberdeen) – salary £70 – 110K pa (or contract rate)

We are looking for a Principal Subsea Cables Engineer with extensive experience in subsea engineering – the majority of this in subsea cables
 
Candidates will need to have a degree/post graduate qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant technical or science discipline and demonstrable and experience in cables engineering
 
Extensive experience in a subsea cables engineering environment and relevant experience within the offshore oil and gas production industry is required as is the ability to direct and guide other team members and strong interpersonal/client facing skills
 
The Principal Subsea Cables Engineer (Oil and Gas Production) will need to have experience of report writing and be proficient in the use of MS Word and Excel and the ability to use bespoke databases
Candidates who are Chartered Engineers, members or fellows of an engineering institution (or working towards) are preferred
 
This vacancy could be filled by either a permanent or long term contract employee
 
The role is for a senior engineer to provide technical support for all cables related issues. It is primarily a technical role, but the successful Principal Subsea Cables Engineer (Oil and Gas Production) will also be expected to demonstrate capabilities in line management and supervision of junior engineers as well as taking a proactive role in developing and nurturing relationships with new and existing clients.

Day to day duties will include:
  • Leading the company’s technical credibility to customers and the wider cables community
  • Developing and checking new methodologies for engineering assessment
  • Understanding the limitations of engineering standards and being prepared to justify working outside these standards
  • Preparing and checking engineering calculations using Excel and MathCAD
  • Report, specification and procedure writing and checking
  • Preparing and giving presentations to clients on work done
  • Design reviews
  • Providing technical assistance to any cable engineering problem
  • Developing new FEA and CFD modelling methods
  • Checking CAD, CFD and FEA analysis
  • Championing the QMS and undertaking quality audits
  • Undertaking problem solving and risk assessments at client’s offices
  • Providing technical leadership to staff
  • Writing and updating technical courses (on PowerPoint)
All candidates must have the ability to write and speak English clearly and fluently
 
A UK driving licence is desirable
